Positive Ageing Week in Galway

Positive Ageing Week is all about celebrating the contribution older people and highlighting positive ageing.

The 2021 flagship event was the Local Heroes Exhibition in Eyre Square which showcased 27 wonderful heroes from communities across Galway City and County. And events included a music evening with Ignite Gospel Choir, special cards from children to their older heroes and many other community-based events and activities.

Our sincere thanks to everyone in our community who joined us in shining a light on people in older age who are active, engaged, enthusiastic, healthy, and who are making a big difference in the lives of our families, neighbourhoods and communities.

Let us all continue, as individuals, community groups and local businesses, to take the time to acknowledge and thank older people who enrich our lives and communities enormously.

27 local heroes from across Galway City and County shared their stories during Positive Ageing Week 2021. They featured in an exhibition in Eyre Square Shopping Centre, and you can read their stories in the Positive Ageing Week 2021 Local Heroes Album on Facebook.

Notecard Competition

There’s still time to send a message of love and win great prizes!

Collect a notecard from the COPE Galway charity shop on St. Augustine Street (or contact us at events@copegalway.ie to request a notecard).

Get your young artists to colour the card and write a message to a special older person in their life. Then take a photo your little ones giving their older hero the notecard.

Local Heroes Exhibition

Location: Eyre Square Shopping Centre (Eyre Sq entrance)

This photo exhibition highlights a selection of amazing local people who continue to be very active, engaged and contributing to their families, neighbourhoods and communities – who are committed to their own health and wellbeing and who have remarkably positive attitudes towards life and living.  Organised by the Galway Age Friendly Programme in association with COPE Galway and  Galway City and County Local Authorities.
