Sonas Day Centre
Sonas Day Centre is a safe, friendly and welcoming centre where older residents in the Mervue community and beyond can drop in for tea with friends, meet new people, get a healthy meal and take part in any of activities at the centre.
The Day Centre is a social space with comfortable armchairs, a TV, and a computer, where older people can access the internet. A member of Sonas staff or a volunteer is always there to assist in any way.
Our aim is to ensure that no older person is alone or isolated, and that they can continue living a healthy, independent life in their own home.
Services at Sonas Day Centre
Drop-in support service
Our staff and volunteers offer practical support like form filling and help with a range of health, welfare and housing issues that older people may have. We can also arrange Community Catering meal deliveries.
Older people can also use the centre’s laundry services and get help with shopping or small home maintenance jobs through a referral to Age Actions Care and Repair service. We also work closely with a range local health providers to ensure that older people have access to the services they need.
Activities & Day Trips
Sonas offers a variety of activities like arts & crafts, exercise sessions, a film club, outings and trips.
Outreach & Home Visits
Our staff and volunteers visit older people who are not able to come to the centre. These visits, at home, in hospital or in nursing homes, provide much needed social contact at a time when older people may become isolated.
Mervue Lunch Club
Our Mervue Lunch Club meets every Thursday at 1pm in St James GAA Hall. Lunch is served at 1pm, followed by tea and coffee, and a live music session, & activities. Come for a meal, to socialise with friends, most importantly, have a good time!
