Setting Up a Community Lunch Club

Would you like to start a lunch club for older people in your community?

Lunch Clubs are a positive and enjoyable way to support older people to continue living in their own homes for longer and to reduce isolation. They are not difficult to get up and running, and with some small investment in equipment, are very cost effective to run.

At the lunch club, older people in your area enjoy a good meal, company and friendship, along with social activities. Lunch clubs also create opportunities for older people to access helpful information and support from neighbours and volunteers in their community. They also give local volunteers the opportunity to make a positive contribution to their community.

Our Community worker has supported local volunteers and community groups in setting up nine lunch clubs in Galway City and four in the county to date.

Our Community Catering service provides meals and the lunch clubs are run by community volunteers like you.

Some Lunch Clubs take place every month, others fortnightly but most are a weekly event. Where and how often your lunch club would take place is up to you, your older people and your volunteers.
