While our clients showed dignified courage and strength of spirit, Our People (staff and volunteers) demonstrated exceptional adaptability and commitment in delivering person-centred, trauma-informed and demand-responsive services.

Homeless Service in 2023
In 2023, Galway continued to experience a housing crisis that saw unprecedented numbers of families and individuals without a place to call home. Many remained in homeless situations for longer, due to the chronic shortage of affordable and appropriate housing.
Despite severe staffing challenges, our skilled team continued to build positive, professional and trauma-informed relationships with clients. We pulled together to ensure our clients received the services they so urgently needed.
COPE Galway redesigned the structure of our Homeless Service so that it supported our service to work to its fullest potential. This meant always keeping the client journey front-and-centre, in a way that complements and incorporates Trauma Informed Practice.Â

“When I heard that I would have my own home, I just couldn’t believe it. I nearly fell off my chair! The first thing I thought of was my mother – she’s looking down on me. Now I have a place I can call my own, where my child can come and visit.”

For us, it’s a massive comfort to have this service. It would be difficult, if we didn’t have Sonas; not to have that space. It really brings happiness to my life.”
Gerry, Sonas Social Centre Client

As an innovative social enterprise, Meals4Health has been making strides in providing nutritionally appropriate, affordable, and convenient kidney-friendly meal options. In 2022, we developed renal diet meals. Our team works closely with healthcare professionals to ensure the meals are tailored to the individual’s unique needs.
“Meals4Health has been very generous with their time in working to adapt recipes to ensure their meals are safe for patients with kidney disease, who need to limit their intake of salt, potassium and phosphate without compromising on taste… The patients I have spoken to have given great reports on the taste of the meals from Meals4Health and love the convenience of being able to order online or by phone.”
– Mary Horan, Renal Dietitian, Tallaght Hospital.
