€1 More Brings a Meal to the Door with COPE Galway’s Meals on Wheels

COPE Galway’s “€1 More Brings a Meal to the Door” campaign will take place in participating restaurants and cafés across Galway from the 28th July until the 7th August 2017.

The initiative aims to raise money to support COPE Galway Community Catering Meals on Wheels service for older people by offering diners an option to add €1 to the price of their meal. Participating restaurants and cafés include La Collina restaurant, Rouge Restaurant, Le Petit Pois Restaurant, Maxwell’s Restaurant, Café Temple, Le Petit Délice café and Pascal café.

COPE Galway Community Catering Meals on Wheels staff and volunteers prepare and deliver approximately 160 nutritious meals a day to older people living in their own homes around Galway City and County.

In 2016 community catering delivered 44,565 meals to 392 older people.

Marie-Anne Michel, Community Fundraiser in COPE Galway said: “Our Community Catering Meals on Wheels is a fantastic service in the community supported by dedicated staff & team of volunteers. There is a €6 charge for the meal but some of our clients cannot pay for it and we are committed to supporting them and to ensuring that they can stay at home for as long as they wish to do so.”

The “€1 more brings a meal to the door” initiative will support an older person like Rita. Rita is an older person in her late 80’s who lives on her own. Rita has experienced poor physical health and she does not get out and about like she used to. Rita benefits from COPE Galway’s Meals on Wheels service by receiving a fresh, nutritious meal delivered to her door every day. As she spends a lot of the day on her own, she looks forward to a chat with our volunteer drivers. Rita cannot afford to pay for her meals and COPE Galway provides these meals to Rita free of charge.

“We’re very thankful to the hotels and restaurants that supported the initiative which took place for the first time last September and raised a total of €1,858. We’re hoping to generate further interest from cafés, restaurants and the Galway community this year and raise more money for our Meals on Wheels service.” Marie-Anne said.

“We would like to invite everyone to go out for a meal in our participating restaurants between the 28th July and the 7th August and give an extra €1 towards our Meals on Wheels. The full list of participating outlets will be on our website and on Facebook and Twitter .”
