COPE Galway Welcomes New Housing Measures

COPE Galway welcomes the measures announced by Minister Eoghan Murphy following yesterday’s (July 3rd) Housing Summit with Local Authorities, the third such summit held over the past year. It is our hope that the Summit will give some much needed momentum to Government efforts to address homelessness.

We are especially pleased that Galway was specifically referenced in respect of the measures announced to address family homelessness in the context of the continuing growth of family homelessness in the city and county. We recently conducted a ‘One Day Census’ of the numbers of homeless availing of COPE Galway services on Midsummers Day 2018 which identified that 82 families including 221 children were supported in emergency accommodation by COPE Galway on the night of June 21st 2018.
