Together we can develop a new, improved domestic abuse refuge and service for women and children.

Help us create a safe place for women and children in Galway

In 2018, 457 women including mothers with children, sought refuge from domestic abuse. Due to limited space, our service in Waterside House could only provide accommodation for 288 women.

There is an urgent need for a larger, purpose-built domestic abuse refuge and service to meet the needs of the increasing number of women who come to us seeking refuge and support.

COPE Galway is redeveloping the convent building on Forster Street into a new domestic abuse refuge and service. Modh Eile House will have significantly improved, self-contained accommodation units, rooms for one-to-one and group support, indoor and outdoor play areas and it will be more secure.

The redevelopment will cost €4m. We raised €3milion through grants and donations.

We need your support to raise the remaining €1 million needed to complete Modh Eile House during 2019.

I didn’t know about refuges before, but having to leave with my baby so suddenly and so late at night… it was amazing to find this place. I feel so safe and supported since I’ve been here.”
