Help complete Modh Eile House in 2019

In 2018, 457 women including mothers with children, sought refuge from domestic abuse. Due to limited space in our service in Waterside House facility, we could only provide accommodation for 288 women.

There’s an urgent need for a larger, purpose-built domestic abuse refuge and service in Galway for the increasing number of women and mothers who need refuge and support.

We are developing the building on Forster Street into Modh Eile House – a new, larger domestic abuse refuge and service for Galway. It will have additional accommodation, a dedicated children’s facility and teenage area, one-to-one rooms and the building is more secure.

The total cost of the project is €4m. Over €3.5 million has been raised through grants and donations. Thanks to everyone who has supported so far. We now need to raise €400,000 to complete Modh Eile House in 2019.

Please give what you can to help transform the lives of women and children experiencing domestic abuse.

I didn’t know about refuges before, but having to leave with my baby so suddenly and so late at night… it was amazing to find this place. I feel so safe and supported since I’ve been here.”
