At Work

Office fundraising can take place on whatever scale you want. There are plenty of ideas below, and we're sure that you and your colleagues will have ideas of your own as well. If you want to talk through your plans with us, we'd love to hear from you.

You can also request a fundraising pack for further ideas, and we can provide posters, balloons, collection tins and much more to help your fundraising go smoothly.

Office fundraising ideas

  • Swear box - pop a collection box on a central desk in the office and agree your fines!
  • Collection box - Why not place a collection box on the Reception desk and encourage staff to deposit their coppers in it on their way home every evening?
  • Organise a sweepstake – whether it's for the Grand National, Wimbledon or the next World Cup organise a sweepstake with 50% for the winner and 50% for charity.
  • Dress down day - All staff make a donation to come to work in casual clothes
  • Cake sale - An oldie but a goodie - ask staff to bring in cakes and biscuits to be sold at morning coffee break time to raise funds.
  • Raffle - Write to local shops and gyms requesting raffle prizes and then sell tickets around the office for the big draw.
  • Sponsored Sleep Over - This fundraiser is popular in schools and youth groups, but why not challenge your colleagues to spend a night without their creature comforts sleeping on the floor of the staff room
  • Donate your time - Ask colleagues to donate what they earn for the last hour of the month or year
  • Auction of promises - Get your colleagues to donate their time or skills and then auction them off - e.g. A night's babysitting, a day of gardening, an afternoon of DIY
  • Sponsored challenge - Would a team from your office like to jump from a plane, run a marathon or climb a mountain? If so, do get in touch and we can help you organise this.
Many companies agree to match funds raised for charity by their staff, so do always check whether your employers will do this.

School fundraising

Welcome to the our Schools Fundraising page, designed specifically to support you with your fundraising and keep you informed of the ways in which your school can get involved with COPE Galway all year round.

Fundraising ideas for schools

  • Hold a cake sale
  • Organise a dress down day
  • Hold a collection at your Christmas carol concert or play
  • Sponsored event - silence, spell, walk, run, swim, dance
  • Collect your coppers
  • Organise a school dance with money from each ticket going to Crisis
  • Organise a raffle and sell raffle tickets
  • Organise a charity concert or talent competition

COPE Galway has a network of volunteer speakers who are available to go into schools and talk to students about the issues and what COPE Galway is doing to help. If you would like to arrange for a speaker to come into your school, contact us on 091 778750 or email info@copegalway.ie

Your Own Event

Why not organise your own event to raise money for COPE Galway, either with friends, family, or through your community group?

To help get you started, call 091 778750. There are also some more ideas below. Just remember - the only limit is your imagination, and every penny you raise will help COPE Galway to support people in Galway experiencing isolation.

  • Hold an auction
Do you know any celebs who might offer a signed t-shirt, or companies willing to donate prizes for a charity auction night for your friends and family? Or go for the “auction of promises” route, where donors offer their own time and expertise.
  • Run, walk, cycle . . .
There are sports events taking place throughout the year, from half-marathons to cycle rides. There’s sure to be one near you – sign up and raise money for Crisis at the same time!
  • Fancy dress at the pub
Hold a fancy dress evening at the local bar or pub and ask everyone to make a donation to attend.
  • Break a record . . .
. . . And ask people if they will sponsor you to do it! Visit the Guinness Book of Records website www.guinnessworldrecords.com and either go for a new record, or think of a wacky idea that hasn’t been done before!

Finally don’t forget to check out our own COPE GALWAY events!

PAYE Information

COPE Galway can claim thousands of Euro every year thanks to tax-effective giving. This is a straightforward and simple process, which allows your donation to go even further and enables us to make the most out of your gift.

If a donor is a PAYE taxpayer and donates €250 or more in a year to us COPE Galway can reclaim the tax paid by the donor. To enable us to do this the donor has to fill out of a form for the revenue which allows COPE Galway to reclaim the tax.

If the the donor is a Self Assessed tax payer or a Corporate Donor they can claim tax relief on chaitable donations of €250 or more in a year.

How does tax-effective giving work?

If you are a PAYE tax payer donations of €250 or more in a year may be eligible for tax relief.
If you are paying PAYE at:

  • The higher rate of 41%, €250 is actually worth €423 to COPE Galway.
  • The standard rate of 20%, €250 is actually worth €313 to COPE Galway.

If you are a PAYE taxpayer please take a few minutes to download and fill out the form here.

After you complete your form, simply send it to:

Tuam Road
Galway

Self-Employed/ Self-Assessed Donor

If you are self-assessed and you donate over €250 in one tax year to COPE Galway we will send you a receipt for your donation. When you fill out your tax return, deduct the donation amount from your taxable income thus reducing your tax bill. The donor benefits directly from the tax relief on donations.

Corporate Donor

If a company makes a donation of €250 to COPE Galway, the company can claim a deduction for the donation as if it were a trading expense. The company benefits from the tax relief.
