| Sept. 24th - Walk a Mile in Her Shoes |
|
Walk a Mile in Her Shoes is an international campaign /event calling for an end to violence against women. The “Walk” is aimed at men and involves them walking a mile around the streets of Galway wearing ladies high heel shoes. We are holding a “Walk” in Galway to draw attention to the issue of domestic violence and to raise funds for our Waterside House, our refuge for women and children. The walk takes place on Saturday September 24th at 2pm with participants walking from Eyre Square down Shop Street to Cross Street and back to Eyre Square. Click here for a map of the route. While the walk is aimed at men it is open to everyone. All those who register for the event are asked to raise a minimum of €50. Shoes (size 11 and 12) will be provided to all participants having been proudly made and sponsored by Dunnes Stores. This is a fun event with a very serious message. Our Waterside House refuge is handling increasing numbers of calls for support and refuge from women all over Galway. Waterside House is the only refuge for women and children in Galway and it can accommodate up to 6 women and their children at any one time. In the past 12 months the refuge accommodated 142 women and their 169 children. In the same period the refuge was unable to accommodate 262 women and their 486 children and these were offered referral to other refuges. Please sign up today and why not get your mates at work, the gym, the club or your friends and family to join you.
This event is proudly supported by Galway Bay FM and the Galway Advertiser.
